Purchasing was the first to have their ‘ah ha’ moment in realizing this really does work. By completing Standard Work Instructions it was possible to cross train current employees as well as train new employees in all aspects of the purchasing process. It was also a means of educating our engineering and drafting departments on how some of their decisions affect purchasing. Since going through the lean process, our road to obtaining our ISO 9001:2008 certification was more clear.
